I just bought a P22 and so far I like the feel and ergonomics of the grip. The only slight down fall that I
noticed was the breakdown for cleaning. I think the slide
return spring should be a (kept)spring like the S&W sigma 40
or even the fnp-9 it would make breakdown and reassembly much easier and practical. There would be less lose parts and no need for the spring alignment tool. All in all I would suggest the p22 if you like to just blast away at paper, beer cans and the average squirrel. Lots of fun and a great trainer for the wife and kid/s.

The Walter P22 was my first pistol. I collect WWII bolt action rifles and never owner a pistol. The only training I had with pistols was firing the Beretta 9mm in the Army. The Walter P22 was by far the only real choice for a first time buyer who wanted a safe automatic with proven quality. After much asking people in "the know", and research on the internet I purchesed my P22. It took me 2 or 3 times going to the range to really get the feel of it and learn how to acquire the perfect sight picture. After I learned that, I really started to notice how steady the weapon really is. The rounds fly incredibily straight. It's fun, inexpensive, and I have never regretted buying this weapon. I shoot better with this weapon than my P99, bersa 380, S&W 40 or any other pistol I have fired. If I had to defend myself with any of my weapons, I would choose the P22. It's rugged, reliable and shoots so straight! Buy one even if you like higher caliber pistols- it's blast to shoot.
