the first thing you notice about the sp22 is the light weight and perfect balance. it really fits your hand. there have been numerous complaints about the trigger but it seems those shooters don''t understand the concept of a two stage trigger system. the initial travel that people are calling creep is actually the first stage. this allows the trigger to have a crisp & light letoff in the second stage while maintaining safety. if it was a single stage trigger with that light of pull, you would always be accidently discharging the pistol before you were ready. the long travel of the first stage prevents that problem. i will say that the operating instructions translated from german are pretty vague about the proper procedure for adjusting the trigger. like many two stage systems, going too far with any one adjustment will make you lose one of the stages or prevent the pistol from firing at all. the adjustments have to be done in combinations to get the perfect setup. i also don''t like the trigger being plastic. but the gun is a joy to shoot and the light weight is nice when you start adding red dots or other scopes. it is also easy to disassemble and clean unlike the ruger space guns that take a degree in mechanics to assemble. again the walther book is light on description of the process.

out of the box the trigger is terrible. way too much travel. the book that comes with the pistol shows three different trigger adjustments that the owner can make. the problem is that the pictures of the adjustment points don't look anything like the sp22 that accompanied the book.

I received the M1 as a Christmas gift. I hurriedly shot some empty soda cans in the back yard and immediately noticed that the trigger was much less than pleasing. I took it squirrel hunting a few days later and shot the only one I saw. It took several shots, but the subsonic hollowpoints didn't frighten the squirrel enough to leave. It's difficult to say what accuracy potential this gun has because I'll have to inject my index finger with steroids and become familiar with the seemingly unpredictable time when to expect it to fire. I too hope some aftermarket miracle becomes available to make it a more useful small game pistol.
